Mad Men Vacation Rentals

Our Ocean City Top 10 Recommendations

Here are our favorite things to see and do in Ocean City, Maryland.
Some are well know, some not so well known. Have a look around as we have included photos, videos, information and links.
They are in no particular order.

1. Maryland Blue Crab Feasting

You can’t go to Ocean City, Maryland and not have a crab feast! Whether you go to one of the many restaurants that offer “all you can eat Maryland Blue Crabs” Or you order a bushel or two and do it on our back deck! It is a delicious MUST!

If you want to get a bushel or two to take home, I’d recommend Rippons Seafood which is about a 5 minute drive. Good crabs and good people! And it’s worth it to get the large or extra large or even jumbo! Medium just isn’t worth the work to get the meat! One more thing to know, they close at 6pm Monday-Thursday and closes at 8pm Friday-Sunday.

If you want a night out for all you can eat crabs I’d highly recommend the Crab Bag which is within walking distance of our house and has the best crabs and atmosphere in all of OC! They have a fun gift shop while you wait for your table and believe me, there is usually a wait so get there early!

2. Northside Park

Less than 10 minutes walk from our house, Northside park is Ocean City’s largest and most popular park facility!

Northside park pier sunset views

The 58 acre complex boasts three lighted softball/baseball fields, a lighted soccer field, multipurpose field, a fishing lagoon, a foot bridge, concession stands, two playgrounds, picnic area, two piers, a gazebo, walking/jogging paths, and a large building with a 14,200 square foot gymnasium, kitchen, community room, conference room, patio, sitting areas, and a sports center annex with a 21,000 square foot multi-sport sports arena. Pack a lunch, grab your family, and enjoy some quality time at one of our lovely picnic sites.

And, it doesn’t end there! In the summer, spend your Sunday evenings in picturesque Northside Park listening to your favorite live music.  This is a family concert series with pizzazz!  Enjoy free music ranging from country to rock, tribute bands to oldies.  Each week children are offered various free activities and entertainment.  The best thing about Sundaes in the Park is the ice cream sundaes!  Create your own sundae for a nominal fee, sit back, listen to music and watch the sun set over the beautiful Assawoman Bay.  Additional ice cream novelty and beverage options are available for purchase.  Bring your picnic basket and beach chairs.  The night will end with a fireworks display at 9pm.  In the event of inclement weather, this event will be moved inside the complex.

One thing is for sure, Ocean City is not lacking on Miniature golf courses! You can’t go a block without seeing one!

You can’t go wrong with any of the miniature courses in OC. But we will highlight Pro-Golf here for two reasons: they are on 136th street just a few blocks from our beach house, and they have an indoor course, perfect for that occasional rainy beach day! One word of advice, it opens at 10am, so you should get there right when it opens. Otherwise if its a rainy day, there is a long line to start to play!

7. Dinner While Watching the Sunset Over the Bay

This is honestly my number one favorite thing in Ocean City! There is nothing better than eating delicious food watching an incredible sunset over the bay! There are many places to do this but I will highlight my two favorite places for this incredible nightly event!

$$ Fagers Island: This place has reasonably priced food. I love getting the steamed shrimp. You want to find out the time of the sunset and give yourself enough time to get there plenty of time to get a seat on the back deck! The restaurant turns into a dance club if you want to make a whole night of it! Feel free to dress up or dress down too!

Address: 201 60th St, Ocean City, MD 21842

$$$ The Hobbit: This is a high-end restaurant inside but has amazing windows to watch the sunset in the comfort of air-conditioning! They have an early bird special but you want to make sure you see the sunset! Plan to dress up at this restaurant and spend a little money! The food is some of the best in all of OC but call ahead to make reservations!
